Garden Musings

Our fourth issue suffered delay due to hurricane Charley. We lost a great deal of time due to electrical problems - if fact, this issue is smaller than we intended. Still, we believe you will find it informative and we hope entertaining.

Just as we were going to press hurricane Frances crossed Florida and we found our electrical problems increased. No longer did we enjoy brown outs and outages of a second or so; we developed voltages of only 90V in about half our sockets. All 220 appliances ceased to function (stove, hot water, air conditioner). Seeing people who no longer had homes, we felt lucky. We had a refrigerator the entire time and the electricity was repaired far faster than I had thought. We also had a good laugh as the cats tried to cope with the sudden arrival of summer. Again, we were very lucky. We extend our prayers to the many who have suffered major damage from the recent hurricanes.

At this point yet another major storm, Ivan, just passed...

Thanks to all of you who sent in questions and comments on the first three issues. Since we are running behind schedule we are posting this issue open. In truth, if enough of our readers would send in memberships we would like to post all issues open. As things now stand expect some areas to be restricted to members only in the future. Founding status is still open but remember its not required and the regular rate is a bargain.

Best of growing,
Bob Cannon
Editor

For those not familiar with Florida we overlaid our Englewood location along with three other cities. Hurricane Frances struck the east coast about three weeks after Charley came ashore on the west. Stuart suffered major damage.
