Black Sapote, chocolate pudding fruit, Diospyros digyna, is a fast growing native of Mexico and Central America. An evergreen with simple alternate leaves it may grow to 35 ft. There are several named varieties available. Photos based on a 6 year seedling tree located appx 27°N - 82°W

Images 1 and 2 show typical leaves. Image 3 is a leaf backlit showing veins and a characteristic gland or spot.

Flowers are represented first by two young buds then by a pair of opened flowers at two stages of development. The dark flower is a day older than the whitish one. These are dissected to show the flowers components.

The final photograph shows a young tree (the one from which the other photographs were taken) growing in Englewood, Florida, USA,
